While oregano oil gets a lot of the spotlight, a warm cup of oregano tea is one of the gentlest and most effective ways to enjoy this herb’s benefits. It’s soothing for the throat, excellent for digestion.
Why Oregano Tea?
Brewing the whole leaf allows you to extract the herb’s polyphenols and flavonoids in a way that is easy for the body to process. It’s particularly helpful for:
·Soothing a scratchy throat
·Settling an upset stomach after a heavy meal
·Promoting relaxation through its aroma.
The Herbal Alternatives Recipe
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon of fresh oregano leaves or 1 teaspoon of high-quality dried oregano
8 ounces of filtered water.
Optional: A slice of lemon or a teaspoon of raw honey (which complements the herb’s savory profile).
Instructions:
Bring your water to a rolling boil, then remove from heat for 30 seconds to let the temperature drop slightly (this prevents scorching the delicate oils).
Place your oregano in a tea infuser or directly into a mug.Pour the hot water over the leaves.
This is the most important step!Cover your mug with a small saucer. This traps the volatile oils (the medicinal part!) from evaporating with the steam.
Let it sit for 5 to 8 minutes. The longer you steep it, the more medicinal--and bitter--the tea will become.
Remove the leaves or strain the tea.Add your honey or lemon if desired.
When to Drink It
For digestive support, sip a cup about 30 minutes after a meal.If you feel a “scratch” in your throat or the sniffles coming on, try drinking a cup twice a day to support your immune system.
